PUBLIC NOTICE

Subject: Expansion of SOBRA Medicaid eligibility to include children under 19, born on or before September 30, 1983 who are covered by group heal insurance.

The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (P.L. 105-33) allows states the option of expanding Medicaid coverage to children on or before September 30, 1983, who previously were not Medicaid eligible. Effective April 1, 1999 the Alabama Medicaid Agency intends to expand eligibility by providing Medicaid benefits to children born on or before September 3 0, 1983, with family income at 100 percent of the federal poverty level regardless of whether they are covered by group health insurance. Currently children born on or before 9/30/1983 may not be Medicaid eligible if they are covered by group insurance.

This expanded coverage for children will be administered by the Alabama Medicaid Agency, Family Certification Division, SOBRA program. Eligible children will receive the full Medicaid benefit package. All Medicaid program policies will apply.
